A Note from the Director
It is my pleasure to welcome you to our website which provides a touchstone for Akron area women and men searching for information on unplanned pregnancies.
Twenty years ago I was brought to APS by the passion in my heart to have a safe place where women could go with the hard decisions of life. A place where they could process through their options and leave with a clear perspective. Today, APS is that place and my passion has not changed.
On a daily basis we see women who are feeling emotionally overwhelmed with what seems like an impossible situation. However, they find that when all the factors affecting their situation and their personal lives are considered a good decision can be made.
Many of our workers have been through some of the same experiences and understand the pressures an unplanned pregnancy may bring. Their knowledge and support is one of the great resources APS offers. We invite you to come in and explore our many resources by making an appointment today.

Ask Doctor Davis:
1.) Can I become pregnant if penetration only occurs for a few seconds? The fluid which leaks out of the penis prior to ejaculation has the highest concentration of sperm, and so pregnancy can result from even having the penis at the vaginal entrance without penetration.
2.) Is it true that I can become pregnant from anal sex? Although pregnancy would be extremely rare from anal penetration alone, anal sex can produce injury to the rectum which could impair the function of the rectum, and is even more likely to result in transmission of STD's such as hepatitis or HIV than vaginal intercourse.
3.) Will a condom protect me from all sexually transmitted diseases? Although latex condoms, short of monogamy, are the best available protection against the spread of STD's, they still provide only partial protection. A small virus, such as the herpes virus, can pass through the pores of a latex condom, and latex condoms do not provide 100% protection from any STD.
